It's a Single Mom Thing, Not the Single Thing That Stops You!
Welcome to it's a Single Mom Thing, the show for single moms by single moms. This is Sheri, your host, and I am happy you are here today. Remember, it's a single mom thing and not the single thing that stops you. When life tugs and tears at your arm, pulling you in opposing directions, unsure of your next step or even the direction you're going in, what do you do? Do you arm, wrestle it until it's under your submission, whatever it is? Do you run and hide from it as it continues to seek you out? Do you go numb and do nothing? Do you go at it head on, like a buffalo in the storm, or do you simply sit still? However, you answered this question. There's no wrong answer, only what felt right at the time. But what if, in these moments of uncertainty, you didn't just sit still, but you went deeper still? It didn't just sit still, but you went deeper still. What if, instead of wrestling or running, you reached for a peace that lies beneath understanding, a calm that can only be found in the presence of God? Welcome back to another episode of it's a Single Mom Thing. Today, we're diving into the depths of our souls, into that sacred space where we're fully known, fully held and fully loved. This is a place beneath the noise and chaos, a place where you can go deeper with God and find the stillness we've been longing for. Find the stillness we've been longing for. So, if you're ready, let's journey together deeper still.
Speaker 1:Undercurrent. So what is the undercurrent of your current situation? Are you aware that, beneath the surface of what we're facing day to day, there's often a deeper, unseen current at work a day? There's often a deeper, unseen current at work, a current that flows effortlessly without us possibly even knowing that it is there, pushing and pulling at, possibly, our peace and our power. Maybe it's a persistent fear, a sense of loneliness, or even a quiet hope that refuses to let go, an unanswered prayer, a sin, a deep desire or even a longing that has you restless as you waited out in the waiting room. These undercurrents, they are powerful and they can pull us in directions we don't always see coming. Much like an undertow, they can be the calm we cling to when life feels overwhelming. They may be old hurts, habits and hang-ups that keep us drifting, sending us adrift, even though we know they aren't good for us. They're familiar and so we return to them again and again, like the waves that carry us out, only to leave us stranded on the shore once more. Or maybe, beneath it all, there's a quiet, a calm whisper that speaks softly to your soul, reminding you I got you that speaks softly to your soul, reminding you I got you An assurance that you are his, that you are held.
Speaker 1:As we start this journey of going deeper, take a moment to consider what's beneath the surface of what you're facing right now. What's the hidden current shaping your reactions, your choices and even your faith? Current shaping your reactions, your choices and even your faith. Recognizing this undercurrent is the first step to going deeper still with God, diving past the waves of daily life and finding the peace that lies far below. Can you feel a sense of serenity as you explore that thought? Beneath the choppy waters of the surface, where the world is battered by the waves of an uncertain reality and each breaking news story adds to the storm lies a stillness that no current event can touch. That's where we're heading deeper still, to the unshakable peace that only God can give. My peace I give you.
Speaker 1:So, as we take a deep dive into the stillness, I want you to breathe deeply, bring your awareness to that undercurrent lying just beneath the surface. Hold on to those thoughts, those feelings, the ones that ebb and flow just like the tide. Can you feel it? Can you trace where it comes from? Do you recognize it? Maybe it arrives with a wave of anxiety, doubt, scarcity or a whisper of untruth about who he says you are. Ah, yes, there it is.
Speaker 1:Now take in another deep breath, one that reaches to the very core of your being, and hold it. Go on, hold it, and then now let's release it. Release that undercurrent, that burden. It's not yours to carry. If you're a believer, you know that he has promised to carry it for you, for his yoke is light. Now take in another deep breath and then go deeper still. Give yourself permission, give yourself grace, give yourself his peace, the peace that he gives you. Hold onto it like a life preserver, letting it bring your mind, body, spirit and soul back to him. There you go, you see, you are held. Relish the sweet embrace of simply being held.
Speaker 1:You don't have to have everything figured out, even when things don't add up right now. You don't have to know exactly where you're going, as long as you know the one who's going with you. The world is full of undercurrents that threaten to take our breath away, to pull at our spirit and faith. But remember we must take every thought captive, because he has overcome the world and he has called us out of it. The world and he has called us out of it.
Speaker 1:John 15, verses 18 through 20, reminds us if you were of the world, the world would love its own, but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. So, yes, this world is against us. It's no wonder that the undercurrents feel so turbulent. When we look to the world for answers that only God has, we risk being swept under instead of going deeper with him. 1 John 2, verses 15 through 17, state this do not love the world or the things in the world. As believers, this world is not our home. It is in many ways against us. If we look to it for fulfillment, it will take us under. Only he can truly satisfy. His peace, unlike anything the world offers, resides within you. Romans 12.2.
Speaker 1:Now, in that verse, paul urges us to be transformed from the inside out, not the outside in. You see, living as his followers. It has very little to do with outward appearances, but it has everything to do with where he lives within us, deep, within, the deeper still, where his voice speaks, guides, encourages and comforts. It's a place where what we see above loses its hold and we sink into his peace below. This is the place where he wants you to go. This is where his peace that surpasses all understanding dwells. In the world above, uncertainty abounds, but here, in the depths of his presence, peace is permanent, guaranteed and eternal. Christ's peace is a hope and a reassurance that the world cannot provide, and you'll find that in Philippians 4, 7. And an anchor when the waves rise. And an anchor when the waves rise.
Speaker 1:Now. Here, as spiritual beings having a human experience, we were brought from the nowhere to the now. Here for his plan and his purpose, not for the world's plans, but his. You are here in this very moment because he intended it, and that purpose goes deeper than anything this world can offer. So let's go deeper still, for you created my innermost being. You knit me together in my mother's womb Psalms 139, 13 and the NIV.
Speaker 1:Even before you took your first breath, girlfriend, he knew you intimately. You were crafted with precision, with love, with a purpose so profound that every detail was accounted for and the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid that every detail was accounted for. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered, so don't be afraid. You are more valuable to God than all of the flocks of sparrows. You can find that in Luke 12, 7 in the NLT. And the same God who designed the cosmos knows each hair on your head. He values you, my girlfriend, beyond measure, cherishing every part of you. His attention to every detail of your being is a constant reminder of your worth.
Speaker 1:A line from one of my favorite songs, jaira, says it beautifully If he dresses the lilies with beauty and splendor, jairus says it beautifully If he dresses the lilies with beauty and splendor. How much more will he clothe you If he watched over every sparrow? How much more does he love you? And if we, with all of our human flaws, know how to give good gifts to our children, how much more will our heavenly father give good things to those who ask Him? You can find that in His Word at Matthew 7, 11.
Speaker 1:This is a love that knows no limits, a peace that can still any storm. He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves. What a blessing was that stillness as he brought them safely into harbor. Let them praise the Lord for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them Psalms 107, 29 through 31. So, as we go deeper still, remember you were brought from nowhere to now here for a divine reason. God's love is unwavering, his peace is profound and his purpose for you is steadfast. In this harbor of his presence we find stillness, safety and an unshakable assurance that we are known, valued and loved beyond measure. So, no matter what goes before us, may we find our peace in the deeper still. Today, as you go back to the world above, remember that peace isn't the absence of storms but the presence of God, who calls us into a depth where the waves of life can no longer reach us. It's in this stillness, this depth, that you are reminded who you are, whose you are and the purpose he has for you. So, when life pulls and tugs, remember that you're not alone in the waters. With every step, with every wave, god is inviting you to go deeper, to rest in his unchanging peace and to be held. He is in your deeper still.
Speaker 1:If you're feeling the pull to go deeper, but need support along the way, remember you don't have to go this alone, my sister. We are here for you. Our 24-hour prayer line is open at 855-822-PRAY. Whether you need prayer, have questions or just need someone to talk to, don't hesitate to reach out.
