Season of Waiting: Getting Out of Your Head, Getting On With Your Blessed Life!
As a single have you ever wondered what in the world are we waiting for in “the single season”?
As a single, my guess is, that you are no stranger to the expression, you are in a season of waiting.
Well, how does that resonate with you? If I am honest, I don’t generally think of the word “waiting” as a feel-good word.
So my question is, if the seasons change do we change or are we just waiting for something to happen and someone to show up?
Join me for this heart-to-heart as we learn how to get out of our heads - get on with our blessed lives.

It's a Single Mom Thing, Not the Single Thing That Stops You!
Welcome to it's a Single Mom Thing, the show for single moms by single moms. This is Share your Host, and I am happy you are here today. Remember it's a single mom thing and not the single thing that stops you as a single. Have you ever wondered what in the world are we waiting for in this single season? Are we waiting for HE double hockey sticks to unfreeze over? Seriously, as single, my guess is, you are no stranger to the expression. You are in a season of waiting. Well, how does that resonate with you? I'm curious. Do you like me?
Speaker 1:When you hear the word waiting, do you think of I don't know, being stuck in a small room with 103 degree fever, chills, body aches, runny nose, constant cough with other germs? You don't want Just waiting to be seen by a doctor, whether it's an urgent care or an ER. You've been there. You want to be seen, you want to be heard, you want your medicine and you want to get out of there and you want to get on to being better. Am I right? Or is your version of waiting more like stuck in a rush hour traffic for an hour to get to your destination that is only 10 miles away? Maybe today I'm being a little over sensitive or cynical, but if I'm honest, I generally don't think of the word waiting as a feel good word. It's more like are we there yet or how much longer. It's kind of like when a person prays for patience. You know what I'm talking about. You are going to wish you never prayed that prayer when God has you go through what A season of patience. To me, waiting is kind of like that One long, endless winter season with no patience. Listen, I live in Florida, so I don't have to deal with the winter season. I'm just saying. But as I sit here and write by the shoreline, as the thick fog rolls in covering up the sun, banking down on the water, so I can't even see where the fog ends and the waves begin, I begin to wonder maybe it's me that can't see Meaning. Maybe the season doesn't need to change. Maybe it's me that needs to change the way I think about the season, getting out of my head and getting on with my blessed life. Welcome to another episode of it's a Single Mom Thing. Seasons change, so why can't we? Seasons come and go, but sometimes we don't go with it. We stay stuck in a season. For me it's spring. Spring is my favorite season as everything is new, fresh, abundant and vibrant.
Speaker 1:In Florida. If you get to experience the spring as it's usually one long, hot summer here you enjoy being outside all day with no humidity, no sweat, no sweater and endless sunshine. It is easy, breezy living, the birds are chirping, the air is crisp, people are cheerful riding their bikes, working in the yards, at the park or even the beach. Oh how I love me some spring and oh how I hate when it ends. Honestly, in Florida, spring may only be like two weeks long, as we don't have many seasons here other than summer. So when it's spring, a sister gets sprung.
Speaker 1:Now, like I said, I live in Florida for a reason, but at times, especially after the summer we had last year, it was one long waiting season. You wait till the last two hours of the day before you go outside your AC-filled home and you are waiting months before there is a break in the weather pattern. Now, if you're listening in a different part of the world or a different part of the United States, your summer may be more like a winter. You wait for the weather to change so you can change your clothes and go outside. Now can you see some similarities to the way you experience, let's say, those seasons. With your season of waiting, do you find yourself anxiously sitting inside, just waiting to get outside, waiting for the temperature to change so you can go do what? Do what you want to do In this season of waiting?
Speaker 1:Are you two waiting on another person to be present before you live your blessed life as singles, especially if you've been single for a while, it can be easy to get caught in the trap of I will do this when that person comes or I will be happy when that person comes. Waiting becomes about a time, a season, when that person shows up, so you, so we never show up in our present season, and who knows really what presents remain unfound in this season if we're never there to unwrap them. Maybe there's a gift of solitude, courage, confidence, humility, forgiveness, reconciliation, recovery or even living a limitless life. Think about it. Who knows what blessings your present life has for you? And who doesn't love some presents? I think Christmas is about the only time I was excited about waiting, because I knew they were going to be presents, and not just one, several of them. But listen y'all, if we are never in the present, then we are never there to receive the blessings from what the present moment offers. Why? Because we're looking for a person who currently is living in another dimension of time. Now, that is seriously messed up, if you really wrap your mind around it, pun intended. So, yo, what if this season never changes? Or what if it doesn't change anytime soon? What are you going to do? You're just going to keep living on ice? Or do you need to change? I know I do. Is now a good time?
Speaker 1:As a single, it's easy to forget that your life doesn't begin or end with another person showing up, especially when the longing has gone on for a long time. We have to be mindful not to have this abundant savings account that holds all our joy or fullness of time to a time when that person is presented. Nor do we change when another person shows up. We are just simply happy they showed up. Listen, you know, I know that the future person will only compliment us. They won't complete us. Only Jesus can do that, and he can do that now.
Speaker 1:Now, some of you listening may still be dealing with the after effects of Valentine's Day and may find this message timely but painful, as you have been waiting. So I want to share with you what several of my formerly single friends, now married, have said to me. When they found their random man that's what I like to call them Each of them would say girl, I was walking my walk when one day I turned to my right and I noticed my random man walking right next to me. I promise you, I was doing my thing and he was doing his thing, and we both took notice and nodded at each other. Now they too struggled time to time with the waiting, but the secret they learned and shared was not to let their blessed life wait until another person showed up. They lived their blessed life.
Speaker 1:Now Is now a good time for you as single parents. You have your blessed life right in front of you. You have your gifts from God that he has entrusted you to care for. Listen, you know better than I you don't become a better parent when you find someone else to parent with you, to pay the bills with you, to adapt with you through the many seasons your kids will go through. Now you may think it may get easier, but honestly it may not. It may add another next level of heartache trying to fit another person, their children and their plans into your family equation. In this present moment, you are blessed. Right now you have your breath, you have your babies and you, hopefully, are filled with the best helper, the Holy Spirit.
Speaker 1:If you know Christ, if you don't stay with me to the end of the podcast, I need to connect you with some Christ. For those listening in the US, you are blessed beyond your belief, living your blessed life Even if you are down with the struggle. It is better than how the third world struggles. I'm just keeping it 100 here. But if your mind is in another time or future season, then you are missing the magnificence in this one. You are missing what Jesus wants to give you now.
Speaker 1:And here's a fun fact the future only shows up as the present. Are you ready to come back? And when you do, just so? You know you may find yourself wandering to the future again, but the good news is your present never leaves you, even if you left it. So when you do come back, or if you are there right now with me, how about we just come back to living our blessed life, and not one defined by a season, one that is not defined by waiting, but rather living as the seasons change and Punx-a-Tonny-Fill just revealed to us that spring is near. How about we change with it? Maybe some of us, and that's me included need to just live and let others live right where they're at, too Meaning you're random man or woman for the fellow's listening In time, when God sees fit, they won't be in your future. They will simply be in your present, living their blessed life next to you. So stay present, my single peeps. You won't want to miss them and you don't want to miss your present moments. So so long to our season of waiting as we get out of our head and get on with our blessed life.
